Nord-Elm's First Solo Firefighter Training Certifies 12 New Volunteers

The Nord-Elm municipal fire association has wrapped up its first independent training course for new emergency responders. Eighteen volunteers took part in the five-day programme, designed to prepare them for frontline duties. Twelve candidates passed the final exam and are now ready for active service. This year marked a change for the association, which previously ran its introductory training in partnership with Schöningen and Esbeck. For the first time, Nord-Elm organised the Qualification Level 1 (Q1) course entirely on its own, covering its six local fire stations.

The programme blended classroom lessons with practical drills. Trainees practised essential skills like fire service first aid, teamwork with emergency medical services, and life-saving techniques such as helmet removal and CPR. Sessions were held across different stations to give participants hands-on experience in real-world settings.

Training officer Gábor Bárdos and his deputy Sabine Symietz led the course, supported by a team of six instructors. Symietz later highlighted the group's strong motivation and cooperation, noting how volunteers from separate stations bonded over the week. At the closing ceremony, she thanked everyone involved in delivering the training.

Of the eighteen candidates, twelve met all requirements and can now respond to emergencies. The remaining participants will finish their qualifications in the near future. The newly certified responders are immediately available for callouts. Their training ensures they can handle critical tasks alongside experienced crews. Nord-Elm's decision to run the course independently reflects its growing capacity to develop local emergency personnel.
