NY teen charged with murder and burglary plot after ex-girlfriend's fatal shooting
An 18-year-old man from New York has been accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in a shooting last November. Austin Lynch now faces additional charges for allegedly plotting to burgle her home before the attack. The victim, Emily Finn, was found dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to the head.
Emily Finn, a student at SUNY Oneonta training to be a teacher, also danced with the American Ballet Studio in Bayport. She and Lynch had been in a relationship until early November 2025, when she ended it.
Lynch was previously charged with murder after police said he shot Finn with a shotgun at his home. She died instantly from a wound to the back of her head, while Lynch suffered injuries and was taken to hospital. New charges now claim Lynch conspired to break into Finn's home. Investigators say he gave an accomplice detailed information about the property and its contents. If convicted of the conspiracy charge, Lynch could face up to four years in prison.
The case against Lynch now includes both murder and conspiracy allegations. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Finn's death and the events leading up to it. A trial date has not yet been set.
