Osnabrück's 'Club Bus' Winner Dives Into Free Electric Advertising
Osnabrück's Public Utility Company Launches Second "Club Bus" Competition—Underwater Club Wins Eye-Catching Ad Space
For the second time, Osnabrück's municipal utility company, Stadtwerke Osnabrück, has held its "Club Bus" competition—and this year's winner is the Unterwasserclub Osnabrück (Osnabrück Underwater Club), which has secured free advertising space on one of the city's 62 electric articulated buses. The striking bus, now wrapped in the club's underwater-themed design, is rolling through the streets, giving the association prominent visibility.
Buses serve as mobile billboards, offering an attractive advertising platform—but for many clubs, booking ad space is often financially out of reach. That's where the Stadtwerke competition steps in. "As a municipal company, we have strong ties to the people and clubs in our community," explains Tanja Stiegeler, managing director of SWO Mobil, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Osnabrück. "The vibrant club scene is what makes Osnabrück such a livable city, and we're happy to support that. Our initiative gives clubs a chance to showcase their work to a wide audience."
The first edition of the competition drew massive interest from local clubs. This year, the focus was on sports associations, again attracting a diverse range of applicants. From all submissions, ten finalists were selected, and club members, supporters, and fans were invited to vote online for their favorite. In the end, the Unterwasserclub Osnabrück e.V. (UCO) emerged as the clear winner.
A Memorable Maiden Voyage
"We're absolutely thrilled to have won this advertising space," says Danny Helwich, chair of the UCO. "Seeing the finished bus in person is an incredible experience, and we're so grateful for this opportunity—and for all the votes we received." The club turned the bus's first journey into a special event. Designed by member Dirk Lippmann, the bus made its inaugural trip past the club's headquarters on Mercatorstraße, where members in full diving gear welcomed "their" new bus before boarding. Together, they continued on to Nettebad, the pool where the UCO regularly trains.
From Concept to Finished Bus Wrap
As part of the competition, the winning club not only receives free advertising space but also a professionally applied bus wrap. As with last year's edition, the execution was handled by Osnabrück-based partner Golenia Werbung. "It's wonderful to see how well this initiative resonates with the people of Osnabrück, and we're proud to support it again this year," says managing director Jens Golenia. "The bus is a real head-turner and is sure to draw plenty of attention on the streets of Osnabrück."
