Romanian fugitive nabbed in Germany over embezzlement charges
A routine border check in northern Germany led to an unexpected arrest last week. On 19 March, officers stopped a white Audi A6 at the Kupfermühle crossing near Flensburg. Inside, they discovered a 25-year-old Romanian man wanted for embezzlement in his home country.
The officers took the man into custody and transported him to the Federal Police Inspectorate in Flensburg. There, authorities confirmed an outstanding arrest warrant linked to financial offences. Under German procedure, he faced either a 30-day prison term or the option to pay a set fine.
Friends of the detained man quickly gathered around €1,600 to cover the required sum. Once the payment was processed, police released him from custody. No further details about his legal status or potential migration consequences have been made public.
The case concluded with the man's release after the fine was settled. No additional judicial or administrative steps have been reported since the incident. Authorities have not disclosed whether further action will follow in Germany or Romania.
