Couple Sentenced to Identical Terms: One Year of Corrective Labor with Partial Wage Garnishment for Desecrating Burial Sites
Russian Couple Sentenced for Grave Desecration After Shocking Cemetery Act
A St. Petersburg court has sentenced a married couple—Denis and Yulia Savinykh—to one year of compulsory labor for desecrating burial grounds after committing an immoral act at a cemetery while intoxicated, local media report.
The case was heard in Sestroretsk District Court under a special procedure, as the defendants fully admitted their guilt. In addition to the labor sentence, each will have 10% of their earnings withheld.
According to case materials, the incident took place at Sestroretsk Memorial Cemetery. The couple deliberately engaged in sexual activity on a gravesite, demonstrating—per the indictment—disrespect for the memory of the deceased and violating public moral standards.
They were charged under the article covering the desecration of burial sites, committed by a group. The court considered mitigating factors, including their admission of guilt and the fact that this was their first offense. Reports note that Yulia Savina, known as a shock-content blogger, not only committed the crime but also photographed it and posted the material online. In her statements, she claimed that her relatives were buried at the same cemetery.
