San Diego's New 28-Stall EV Fast-Charging Hub Opens Near Ocean Beach
San Diego now has a new electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging hub after EVgo opened a 28-stall facility near Ocean Beach and Mission Beach. The site adds to the city's growing network, which previously had around 290 fast chargers among its 2,700–2,800 public charging points. The new hub offers drivers a much quicker charge than standard Level 2 stations. Fast chargers can power up an EV several times faster, making them ideal for busy areas. EVgo has expanded rapidly, installing over 1,200 new chargers across the US in the past year alone.
The location includes nearby amenities like a Wendy's, a Vons grocery store, and a Sprouts market. Drivers can charge their vehicles while running errands or grabbing a meal. California, which leads the nation in both EV adoption and public charging infrastructure, is pushing toward a goal of 100% clean electricity by 2045. EVgo currently operates more than 5,000 fast chargers nationwide. While the exact number in California remains unspecified, the state continues to dominate the US in EV infrastructure growth.
The new hub increases San Diego's fast-charging capacity by nearly 10%. With more drivers switching to electric vehicles, the expanded network aims to meet rising demand. The state's push for cleaner energy also supports California's long-term sustainability targets.
