Arson Attacks on Vehicles Cause €1.6 Million in Damage Across Saxony in 2025
Perpetrators typically strike under cover of night. In Saxony, vehicles have repeatedly become targets of arson attacks.
In 2025, arson attacks on vehicles in Saxony resulted in damages totaling €1.6 million, according to figures released by the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior in response to a parliamentary question from AfD lawmaker Carsten Hütter. A total of 14 incidents were recorded, though no injuries were reported. The most severe case—a €600,000 loss—occurred in an attack on two trucks in Leipzig on November 7.
Hütter primarily blamed left-wing extremists for the crimes and criticized Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) for failing to explicitly name them as responsible. The ministry had stated that in all cases, the state police's domestic security unit was investigating unknown suspects, but no arrests, pretrial detentions, or convictions had yet been made. Hütter called for greater use of intelligence agencies to combat the far-left scene.
