Speeding Opel Astra crashes into traffic light pole before fleeing scene
A serious crash took place on Paul-Suhr-Straße when an Opel Astra struck a traffic light pole. The driver had been speeding before losing control near Amsterdamer Straße. Both occupants then abandoned the car and ran from the scene.
The incident began as the Astra travelled at high speed along Paul-Suhr-Straße. The driver illegally overtook another vehicle before attempting a right turn onto Amsterdamer Straße. During the manoeuvre, control was lost, sending the car into a traffic light pole.
The impact was severe enough to deploy the front airbags and cause heavy damage to the vehicle and the traffic light structure. Emergency services arrived to find the car wrecked and the traffic signal knocked out of operation. The Astra was later towed away, leaving the light non-functional. Police detectives took charge of the scene to gather evidence from the abandoned vehicle. Authorities confirmed that efforts to trace the driver and passenger are still underway.
The traffic light remains damaged and out of service following the crash. Investigations continue as police work to identify those responsible. No arrests have been made so far.
