Tbilisi celebrates Europe Day with EU-Georgia unity in focus
Europe Day celebrations took place in Tbilisi on May 9, drawing thousands to Expo Georgia. The event marked the 1950 Schuman Declaration, which set the stage for the European Union. Attendees explored exhibitions, discussions, and performances highlighting EU-Georgia ties.
The Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, officially opened the festivities. He described Europe as a space of diversity and expressed optimism about Georgia’s future EU membership.
A pavilion showcased 30 years of EU-Georgia cooperation, focusing on business development and reform projects funded by the EU. Nearby, the Team Europe exhibition shared stories from member states, illustrating their contributions in different sectors. Visitors engaged with education programmes like Erasmus+ and explored AI tools for career growth. Outdoor areas featured an agro market, environmental initiatives under 'Georgia Goes Green', and a live performance by Georgian band Bedford Falls. A live podcast studio, titled *My Europe, My Future*, hosted discussions on identity, culture, and what it means to be European today. Organisers emphasised Georgia’s deep cultural and historical connections to Europe, framing the event as a reflection of shared values.
The celebrations in Tbilisi brought together EU-funded projects, cultural exchanges, and public discussions. With thousands attending, the event reinforced Georgia’s ties to Europe while highlighting ongoing cooperation. The day closed with performances and exhibitions, leaving visitors with a clearer picture of Europe’s role in the country.
