90-Year-Old Injured After Drunk Cyclist Causes Scooter Crash in Lingen
A 90-year-old mobility scooter driver suffered serious injuries in a collision on Zum Emswehr street in Lingen on Friday afternoon. The incident involved a 34-year-old cyclist who was travelling toward Hanekenfähre at the time of the crash. The accident occurred when the cyclist attempted an evasive manoeuvre to avoid hitting the mobility scooter. The sudden movement caused the 90-year-old driver to veer off course, crash into a green space, and fall. Police confirmed the scooter driver’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
A breathalyser test was attempted on the cyclist but failed multiple times. Officers then ordered a blood sample to determine the rider’s alcohol level. Authorities later confirmed the cyclist had been under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
The injured mobility scooter driver remains in hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. The cyclist now faces further investigation over the failed breath test and blood alcohol results. Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
