Ascension Day unites Bad Salzungen-Dermbach with open-air worship and music

Christians in the Bad Salzungen-Dermbach church district will gather for Ascension Day celebrations on Thursday, May 14. Multiple open-air services and indoor events have been organised across the region, featuring music, choirs, and local clergy leading the worship. The day’s events will begin with several services at 10 a.m. In Bad Salzungen, Reverend Karl Weber will lead a central service on the terrace of Haunschen Hof, accompanied by the AHA-Hornsound French horn ensemble. Meanwhile, Friedenskirche in Bad Liebenstein will host a service led by Reverend Peter Nietzer. Over in Merkers, Reverend Franziska Freiberg will conduct a service in the Evangelical Church.

An ecumenical open-air service will also take place at 10 a.m. in the castle gardens near the basilica in Herrenbreitungen, featuring a brass choir. At the same time, Reverend Markus von Kiedrowski will lead a gathering at Teichanlage Grimmelbach between Kaltensundheim and Aschenhausen. Another outdoor service will be held on Pfingstwiese near Sondheim vor der Rhön, with music from the Oberwaldbehrungen trombone choir. Later in the morning, at 10:30 a.m., Reverend Katrin Mang will lead a service in the Schafscheune near Kaltenwestheim, accompanied by the Kaltenwestheim Choral Society. At 11 a.m., two more events will follow: an open-air service at Buchenhain in Kaltennordheim, led by Vacancy Coordinator Nadja Ramisch, and an ecumenical service beneath the cross on Glaserberg in Dermbach, featuring the Dermbach trombone choir.

The Ascension Day services will bring together communities across the district for worship, music, and reflection. Each location offers a mix of indoor and outdoor settings, with clergy and local choirs contributing to the celebrations.
