Berlin Police Arrest Suspect After Violent Weekend Robbery
Yesterday morning, officers from Police Precinct 31 arrested a suspected robber in Berlin's Alt-Hohenschönhausen district. According to initial findings, the 26-year-old allegedly attacked a 42-year-old man last Saturday at around 9:30 p.m. together with an as-yet unidentified accomplice. The assault took place at the intersection of Vincent-van-Gogh-Straße and Randowstraße, where the suspects reportedly threatened the victim with a weapon and demanded his valuables. They ultimately fled with his smartphone.
Yesterday morning, the victim tracked his phone to Neustrelitzer Straße and alerted police, who responded to the location. Officers located and apprehended the 26-year-old suspect. Nearby, they discovered the stolen phone and a loaded blank-firing gun, which is believed to be the weapon used in the crime and was subsequently seized. The phone was returned to the victim.
The suspect was taken into police custody for identification procedures before being released. The search for the second suspect remains ongoing. The investigation is being led by a specialized unit of Police Directorate 3 (East).
