California's 47th District leans blue as Dave Min seeks re-election

California’s 47th Congressional District has shifted further from its swing-district past. Recent redistricting made the area less competitive for Republicans, and voters there favoured Kamala Harris over Donald Trump by 10 points in 2024. Democratic incumbent Dave Min now seeks re-election in the redrawn district. The 47th District once stood as a battleground, but boundary changes altered its political landscape. After redistricting, the area now covers Irvine, Tustin, Laguna Beach, and other coastal cities like Dana Point and Laguna Niguel. It also includes Lake Forest, Laguna Woods, and Aliso Viejo.

Dave Min first won the seat in 2022 and has held it since. His re-election bid comes as the district’s voting patterns lean more Democratic. In the 2024 presidential race, local voters backed Harris by a double-digit margin, reflecting the shift.

The district’s new boundaries and recent election results suggest a stronger Democratic foothold. Min’s campaign will test whether the trend holds in the upcoming vote. The outcome could further solidify the party’s position in this part of Orange County.
