Fürth's Bold 2040 Heat Transition Plan Revealed Next Week

Fürth will unveil its municipal heat transition plan on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The event, held at the Kofferfabrik from 6 to 8 p.m., is free to attend. The city aims to outline how it will achieve climate-neutral, secure, and affordable heating by 2040.

The plan comes as part of legal requirements under the Heat Planning Act. Officials will also explain upcoming rules for buildings and offer guidance on energy-saving measures.

The city must finalise its heat plan by June 30, 2026, as mandated by law. This document will serve as a roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels and expanding sustainable heating solutions. Key focus areas include the southern district, the city centre, and the Fronmüllerstraße area, where district heating networks may grow.

A preliminary timeline for expanding the network in the southern district should be ready by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, planning for a main heat transport line is underway, with completion expected by mid-2027. The city is also providing around 250 free on-site consultations for homeowners to help cut energy use in single- and two-family houses. At the event, officials will break down the upcoming Building Modernization Act. This law will set new standards for heating systems in existing buildings. Advisors will be on hand to explain support services and funding options for residents.

The heat transition plan sets out Fürth’s path to carbon-neutral heating by 2040. Residents can attend the June 18 event to learn about legal changes, financial aid, and energy-saving programmes. The city’s next steps include finalising the plan and advancing key infrastructure projects over the coming years.
