Massive copper cable heist leaves German utility company reeling
Police in Mellrichstadt are investigating a large-scale theft after unknown intruders stole hundreds of kilograms of copper cable. The break-in took place at Überlandwerk, a local utility company, over the weekend. Authorities believe the stolen goods were transported away in a larger vehicle. The theft happened between 2:00 PM on Friday and 3:00 PM on Saturday. Thieves forced their way into the property through the rear and broke open several doors. Once inside, they took roughly 500 kilograms of copper wire, three reels of heavy-duty construction cable, and about 80 metres of copper cable.
The total value of the stolen items runs into several thousand euros. Investigators suspect the thieves used a larger vehicle to move the heavy haul. Mellrichstadt police have launched an investigation and are asking for public assistance. Anyone with information about the theft is urged to contact the local police department. The stolen materials remain missing as the search continues.
