Swiss police forces unite under a single uniform by January 2026
In a move towards unity and efficiency, most Swiss cantonal police forces are set to adopt a common uniform, known as KEP, from January 2026. This includes the police corps of the Romandie and Ticino regions, marking a significant step in standardizing the appearance of police officers across Switzerland.
The new uniform, designed to meet the demands of daily police work, consists of blue clothing for officers and gray for security assistants. It aims to reduce acquisition costs and promote a cohesive image among the various police corps. The transition will occur in stages between 2026 and 2028, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
While the uniform will provide a standardized look, individual police corps will retain their distinct identities through personalized features such as badges or rank loops. This harmonious blend of unity and individuality reflects the diversity of Switzerland's police forces.
From January 2026, the Latin police corps will don the cross-corps uniform, joining their counterparts in French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino who will also begin the transition to the new uniform. This collective effort underscores Switzerland's dedication to fostering a sense of unity and professionalism within its police forces.
