Unlicensed driver strikes elderly pedestrian in Marzahn collision
A 79-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a delivery van in Marzahn yesterday afternoon. The collision happened around 1:25 p.m. as the man crossed the street near a bus terminal. The 24-year-old driver was turning right from Marzahner Promenade onto the promenade when he struck the pedestrian. The force of the impact threw the elderly man into the air before he landed on the roadway.
The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital with leg injuries. He remains under inpatient care. Police later confirmed the driver did not hold a valid license. Authorities immediately prohibited him from continuing his journey. The case, including both the accident and the unlicensed driving, has now been handed to the specialised traffic offences unit of Police Directorate 3 (East).
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The pedestrian’s condition is being monitored, while the driver faces potential charges related to the collision and driving without a valid license.
