Victory Dictation 2025 unites thousands in wartime remembrance across Russia
Over 3,000 students, workers, and athletes from Verkhnyaya Pyshma took part in the Victory Dictation, a nationwide event held across 18 venues in the city.
For the first time, one of the test sites was the Palace of Sambo and Martial Arts in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, organizers told Novy Den. Among those testing their knowledge of key events from the Great Patriotic War were Alexey Svalov, coordinator of the Choice of the Strong project in Sverdlovsk Region; Leonid Putintsev, executive director of the Sverdlovsk Sambo Federation; Mikhail Sukhanov, Honored Coach of Russia; Denis Sukhanov, a World Cup winner in sambo; athletes from the UGMK Sambo Club; and students and staff from the Martial Arts School.
The Victory Dictation is an international campaign aimed at preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. "This year, together with the Martial Arts School and the Sverdlovsk Sambo Federation, we held the Victory Dictation at the Palace of Sambo and Martial Arts in Verkhnyaya Pyshma for the first time," said Svalov. "Both young athletes and champion sambists took part. I was one of the first to write the dictation. The questions were engaging, covering major events of the war and the Heroes who contributed to the Victory."
Putintsev noted that hosting the commemorative event at the Palace of Sambo could become a new tradition in the region.
"History shapes the future, and knowing the history of your country is essential," said Mikhail Sukhanov, Honored Coach of Russia. "Today, athletes from the UGMK Sambo Club joined me in taking the Victory Dictation."
This year's event marked the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War and the 130th birthday of Marshal Georgy Zhukov. Additionally, students from the Martial Arts School participated in the "Letter to a Hero" campaign.
"Our young sambists and elementary school students wrote heartfelt letters to those who need support the most," Svalov added.
Another unconventional venue in Verkhnyaya Pyshma for testing knowledge of the Great Patriotic War was THEATRUM, a unique gastronomic theater located within Russia's and Europe's largest Museum of Automotive Technology.
Since 2019, the Victory Dictation has become an annual event, bringing together millions of people from every region of Russia and residents of nearly 100 countries. The number of venues grows each year, and in 2025, the dictation was held for the first time at one of the exhibition centers of the Museum Complex—the Museum of Military Equipment. That year, the museum became the main venue in Sverdlovsk Oblast, where lawmakers, public figures, youth organization representatives, athletes, and local residents tested their knowledge.
