Wiesbaden hosts Disability Equality Protest Day with free events on May 5
Protest for Disability Equality Returns to Wiesbaden City Hall on Tuesday, May 5
On Tuesday, May 5, Wiesbaden will once again host a Disability Equality Protest Day at City Hall, calling for greater inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities.
The event will take place in and around City Hall (Schlossplatz 6) from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with free admission. For the full program and details, visit: www.wiesbaden.de/protesttag-gleichstellung.
Organized by the City of Wiesbaden in collaboration with the Wiesbaden Inclusion Working Group (AK Inklusion Wiesbaden) and the Wiesbaden Expert Council, this year's protest—supported by Aktion Mensch—focuses on the theme "Getting Around: Public Transport, Streets, and Sidewalks." The event highlights everyday barriers faced by people with disabilities while pushing for tangible improvements in mobility across the city. The goal is to ensure that transportation and public spaces are accessible to all as a matter of course.
A key feature of the program is a keynote address by Andreas Winkel, Hesse's State Commissioner for People with Disabilities, who will share critical insights on barrier-free mobility and equal participation in public life.
Program Highlights:
- 2:45 PM (outside City Hall): Flash mob by the Wiesbaden School of Music and Art (WMK)
- 3:00–6:00 PM (City Hall foyer): Information booths and art exhibition—showcasing initiatives, projects, and artistic works on inclusion and participation, inviting dialogue and reflection.
- 3:00 PM (Grand Hall): Opening remarks, live music, and a panel discussion with citizens, advocacy groups, experts, and policymakers on "Accessible Mobility: Putting Transportation in the Spotlight."
- 6:00 PM (Kulturforum, Friedrichstr. 16):Benefit concert under the motto "Kids Playing for Kids"—students from the WMK perform a diverse program in support of UNICEF.
