52-Year-Old Charged With Manslaughter After Fatal Assault on 95-Year-Old
An Oahu grand jury indicted today a 52-year-old man for manslaughter in the death of a 95-year-old man in Chinatown.
On March 30, Fredrick Hoisington allegedly assaulted Merrill Zundell by kicking him in the leg, causing him to fall to the ground and sustain an injury.
Zundell later died from complications due to that injury.
Manslaughter, a Class A felony, is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Hoisington is being held without bail at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.
"Our kupuna deserve to live safely and with dignity in our community," Honolulu Prosecutor Steve Alm said in a written statement. "This indictment reflects our commitment to holding individuals accountable for acts of violence, particularly when they are committed against vulnerable members of our community."
"We thank the Honolulu Police Department for their work in investigating this case and will continue to pursue justice on behalf of Mr. Zundell and his loved ones," Alm said.
Deputy Prosecutor Andrew Itsuno is handling the prosecution of this case.
