Ex-VTI employees file grave coercion charges in Yanson family feud

Ex-VTI employees file grave coercion charges in Yanson family feud

Forty-two former employees of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) have filed criminal complaints against company officials. The legal action, submitted on April 30, 2026, centres on allegations of grave coercion during a bitter family dispute over VTI’s leadership. Lawyer Dino De Leon is representing the workers in their case against key figures in the company.

The complaints name Olivia Yanson, Leo Rey Yanson, Ginnette Dumancas, and other senior VTI officers as respondents. De Leon argued that these individuals prevented employees from carrying out lawful actions and forced them into decisions against their will. To support the claims, he cited legal precedents, including People v. Arnado and Vallacar Transit Inc. v. Yanson Jr.

One of the complainants, Alberto Cabalida Jr., had worked at VTI for nearly a decade before his dismissal in 2019. He received a termination notice around October 19, 2019, backdated to September 24, 2019. The document did not provide a clear reason for his removal. The alleged coercion took place amid a power struggle within the Yanson family, which controls VTI. The workers’ legal team claims the respondents used their positions to pressure employees during this period of internal conflict.

The case now moves forward with three separate counts of grave coercion. If proven, the allegations could have legal consequences for the named VTI officials. The outcome may also impact ongoing disputes within the company’s leadership structure.
