High-speed chase ends with arrest of unlicensed driver in Gütersloh
Gütersloh (FK) – After a motorist drove erratically along Verler Straße on Thursday evening (March 26, 10:30 p.m.), nearly colliding with a traffic island in full view of plainclothes police officers, authorities attempted to stop and check the vehicle as it continued onto Friedrich-Ebert-Straße.
The driver briefly pulled over, allowing passengers to exit before suddenly fleeing at high speed in a frantic attempt to evade the officers pursuing him. He eventually came to a stop on Fliederweg, where he bolted toward a nearby house. Police intercepted and subdued him on the ground.
Investigations revealed that the 23-year-old had no valid driver's license and was operating an unregistered vehicle. The license plates on the Opel did not belong to the car and had been reported stolen. Additionally, an outstanding arrest warrant existed against the Gütersloh resident for prior traffic offenses. The vehicle was impounded, and the suspect was taken into custody. Criminal proceedings have been initiated.
