US Diplomat with Flintstones Legacy Meets Malaysia's King in Johor

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, met with Dave Williams at Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru today. Williams, an economic counsellor at the US Embassy in Malaysia, is also the grandson of William Hanna, the legendary co-creator of The Flintstones and The Jetsons. The meeting took place during Williams’ official visit to Johor. Earlier, he had toured Istana Flintstones in Mersing—a unique palace inspired by the classic cartoon The Flintstones. The design of the building pays homage to the animated series, which his grandfather helped bring to life decades ago.

Williams’ role as an economic counsellor focuses on strengthening ties between the US and Malaysia. His family legacy in animation adds a cultural connection to his diplomatic work. The visit highlights both professional and personal significance for the embassy official.

The meeting between Sultan Ibrahim and Williams underscores ongoing diplomatic engagement. It also spotlights the enduring influence of Hanna’s creations, now reflected in Malaysian architecture. The visit concludes Williams’ trip to Johor, where he explored both official duties and family-inspired landmarks.
